As we shift gears into the end of summer, August has a way of inviting us to coast. The calendar thins out, and it becomes easy to tell ourselves we'll refocus after Labor Day. However, businesses that finish the year strong treat these next few weeks as a head start, not a holding pattern. A successful fourth quarter isn't won in October; it's won through the right planning now.
We encourage you to be deliberate in August. Take an honest look at your financials while there's still time to act on what you find. Any strategic adjustment made now will certainly pay off at year-end, but most importantly, it sets the foundation for 2027. With a slower calendar window, use that time to invest in your people through training and development. Look for training that sharpens skills, deepens engagement, and pays returns long after the season changes. None of this requires a grand plan. It requires a decision to stay in motion when it would be easier not to.
The Chamber is now accepting nominations for The Event — Celebrating Business Excellence, our signature awards evening returning this October. Each fall, The Event allows us to publicly celebrate the businesses and leaders making a significant impact across the Buffalo Niagara region, and it is one of the true highlights of our Chamber year. The businesses most deserving of recognition are rarely the ones seeking it. They are quietly doing extraordinary things in our community every single day, and they get honored because a member took five minutes to put their name forward. Every event, every program, every introduction we can make is already part of your membership, and the members who get the most out of this organization are simply the ones who show up. The final months of the year will reward the work you're putting in right now, so let's finish 2026 the way we have run it all year: together and at full speed.
